Customs clearance
Customs is the most common cause of delay in importing, and almost always a preventable one. This page sets out the process and the mistakes that cause the delays.
Where clearance starts
It starts with documents. The invoice, packing list, contract and transport documents have to be complete and internally consistent before the cargo reaches the border.
Internally consistent is the operative phrase: the description, quantity and value on the invoice must match the packing list and the contract. In practice most delays trace back to exactly that mismatch.
Commodity code and duties
Every commodity is assigned a code under the foreign-trade commodity nomenclature. That code determines the duties payable, which makes getting it right a direct financial question for the importer.
The specific rates vary by commodity and change over time. That is why we do not publish averaged percentages — a manager gives you the calculation for your own nomenclature.
What we take on
Clearance is included on all three tariffs. We assemble the document set, check it, file the declaration and run the process to completion.
What we need from you is the supplier documentation and accurate product information, on time. We do the rest.
One point worth stating plainly: we prepare documents correctly, but we do not work around legal requirements. Requests to understate value or deliberately misclassify a commodity code are ones we decline.

- The clearance service is included. The duties themselves depend on your commodity code and value and are calculated separately.
- What about goods that need certification?
- Certain categories require additional documents. Give us the nomenclature in advance and a manager will provide the list.
- What if there is an error in the documents?
- Most errors are found and corrected before the cargo reaches the border. That is the whole point of checking the file in advance.
- Can I handle clearance myself?
- Yes, if you prefer. In that case the transit guarantee does not cover the stage that stays on your side.
